This policy explains, in plain English, what personal information Grand Motors Stockport Limited ("Grand Motors", "we", "us") collects when you use this website or contact us, why we collect it and what your rights are under UK data protection law (UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018).
Who we are
Grand Motors Stockport Limited is the data controller for information collected through this website. You'll find our full company details at the bottom of this page.
What we collect
We only collect information you choose to give us through our enquiry, test drive, reservation, part exchange, finance and contact forms, or by phone, WhatsApp or in person. This may include:
- your name, phone number and email address;
- the vehicle you're interested in and any message you send us;
- details of a vehicle you'd like to part exchange or sell (registration, mileage, condition);
- preferred dates and times for a test drive or collection, and any deposit or finance preferences.
Like most websites, our hosting provider may also record basic technical information (such as your IP address and browser type) to keep the site secure.
Why we use it
- to reply to your enquiry and arrange viewings, test drives, reservations or valuations;
- to help you apply for finance, if you ask us to;
- to complete a sale and meet our legal and accounting obligations;
- to keep our website secure and working properly.
We will not send you marketing messages unless you've asked us to, and you can opt out at any time.
Our lawful basis
- Steps before a contract — when you ask about, reserve or buy a vehicle.
- Legitimate interests — replying to general enquiries and running our business.
- Legal obligation — keeping sales and tax records.
- Consent — for optional analytics cookies and any marketing you sign up to.
Who we share it with
We never sell your information. We only share it where needed to handle your enquiry — for example with a finance partner when you ask us to arrange finance, with warranty or delivery providers involved in your purchase, or with trusted suppliers who host our website and systems. We may also share it where the law requires us to.
How long we keep it
Enquiries that don't lead to a sale are kept for up to 24 months and then deleted. If you buy a vehicle from us, we keep sale records for 6 years to meet our legal and tax obligations.
Your rights
You have the right to:
- ask for a copy of the information we hold about you;
- ask us to correct or delete it;
- object to or ask us to restrict how we use it;
- withdraw consent at any time, where we rely on consent;
- complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk) if you're unhappy with how we've handled your data.
Cookies
Cookies are small files stored on your device. We use:
- Essential cookies — needed for the site to work, such as remembering your cookie choice. These can't be switched off.
- Optional analytics cookies — help us understand how visitors use the site so we can improve it. These are only set if you click "Accept" on our cookie banner.
You can change your mind at any time by clearing cookies in your browser, which will show the cookie banner again.
